Sidney John Turner was born in Swaffham Prior on 25th January 1906(Newmarket Q1-1906 3B:469), baptised in Swaffham Prior (St.Mary's) on 11th March 1906, son of Samuel and Jessie TURNER (née JOHNSON).

1911 census...Aged 5, he was at Main Street, Swaffham Prior with his father Samuel TURNER, [39] a carpenter, born Snailwell and his mother Jessie [32] born Exning.

He married Phyllis Aley FREW (born 1910 in Cambridge) in Q2-1935. CWGC give her as "of Lode". In the 1939 register she was living at High Street, Bottisham with Harry G (builder's labourer) and Marjorie C. CLARK. Also there was Ronald S Brown a police constable and Coldstream Guards Reservist. There is one closed record.


907 (County of Middlesex) Balloon Squadron operated 5 flights of 9 balloons at Woodberry Down, Finsbury Park, N London. The circumstances of his death are unknown, he was the only one of his unit to die that week. His death was registered in Cambridge.(Q3-1942 3B:465), suggesting he was at home.
